Former Indian opener, Sunil Gavaskar has showered praise on Ravindra Jadeja's performance, stating that the all-rounder's comeback has been tremendous.

Jadeja, who suffered from a knee injury during the Asia Cup 2022, had months of rehabilitation process before getting the green light to be selected in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar series.

He proved his mettle once again (both with bat and ball), scoring a crucial 70 in the first innings, and picking up seven wickets in the match, which included a fifer in Australia's first innings.

The visitors had no answer to Jadeja's brilliance, as the 34-year-old proved once again as to why he is the number one all-rounder in Test format.

Gavaskar was ecstatic to see Jadeja performed after an injury layoff and also praised Axar Patel, who stepped up in the absence of Jadeja.

“Here is a man who has been performing regularly for India. Jadeja was out of the team due to injury, after which Axar Patel comes in and grabs his chance and that is such a fantastic thing for Indian cricket to have bench strength where players are ready,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying to India Today.

He added: “His comeback has been tremendous. We didn’t see much about his fielding as he was at mid-off and there about. But as a bowler, he was on target from the outset. As a batter, Jadeja once again showed that he is going to score more and more runs for India. His wicket has to be earned by the opposition."

The first Test match was done and dusted inside 2.5 days, and the next Test at Delhi begins on February 17. Australia will be eager to have a better performance, after what we witness in Nagpur.
