Australian opener David Warner had a forgettable outing in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur.

The southpaw's performance was nothing short of disastrous, as he registered disappointing scores of 1 and 10 in the first and second innings, respectively.

While it was Mohammed Shami who claimed his wicket in the first innings, Ravichandran Ashwin was the one to send his bunny packing in the second innings, dismissing him for an unprecedented 11th time in the longest format.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra had predicted that Warner would struggle in India due to the lack of bounce on the track, which would hinder his hand-eye coordination that makes him so successful in white ball cricket.

In light of Warner's subpar performance, the Indian veteran weighed in on the situation, speaking with ESPNCricinfo. He stated that the only way for Warner to come out on top against Ashwin is to approach the game with an aggressive mindset.

It is anticipated that Warner will face the new ball against Ashwin in the rest of the series. Chopra acknowledged that Ashwin has the upper hand in this particular matchup and has gotten into Warner's head.

He added that no matter what tactics are employed, it is highly likely that Ashwin will come out on top.

"The only thing that can allow David Warner to succeed is to go aggressive. If you are defending, anyway your confidence is lacking. So, try your luck, come out smashing and with some luck maybe you can come out on top."

India and Australia will square off in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Friday, February 17.

The match will be played at  Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. While the hosts would look to continue with the winning momentum, the visitors would look to bounce back and level the series.
