WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals announces Jonathan Batty as their head coach

In the latest development, the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Women's Premier League have announced their coaching staff ahead of the inaugural edition.

Jonathan Batty has been announced as the head coach of the franchise. Batty, coached the Oval Invincibles Women to back-to-back titles in The Hundred competition and will bring in her expertise on the Indian shores. 

Apart from Oval Invincibles, he has also coached the Melbourne Renegades and Surrey Women's team.

Apart from Batty, the Delhi based franchise have also confirmed the appointment of cricketers Hemlata Kala, and Lisa Keightley as the assistant coaches. Biju George, who has previously worked with India women's team has been roped in as the fielding coach.

Speaking on his appointment, Batty was jubilant to join the franchise:

"It's an incredible time to be involved in Women's cricket and the WPL has the potential to transform the landscape of women's professional sport globally," Batty said in a statement.

Lisa Keightley, has represented Australia in nine Tests, 82 ODI games, and a solitary T20I match. She is the current head coach of Sydney Thunder Women's team, and was England Women's head coach when they made it into the finals of the 2022 World Cup.

"I'm very excited to be involved with the Delhi Capitals and to be working with so many different players and staff from around the world," Keightley said.

On the other hand, Kala played seven Tests, 78 ODIs and one T20I match for India. Moreover, she has also been a selector for the women's team.

The WPL auction takes place on February 13.
