Former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed made a triumphant return to Test cricket, amassing 335 runs in the two-Test series against New Zealand at home. Sarfaraz was picked ahead of vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan, who had a tough time in the England series, where he scored just 141 runs.

Now, speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Rizwan revealed that he asked the team management and captain to drop him in favour of Ahmed, who was coming off a terrific home season.

Sarfaraz awarded the Player of the Series, displayed heroics with the bat in the drawn second Test in Karachi, where Pakistan were down and out.

Here's what Rizwan said

“You can ask the head coach Saqlain Mushtaq that what I told him after the end of the England Test series, was happy to see Sarfaraz perform because that is what I wanted. I personally thought that since I wasn’t able to perform, I didn’t deserve to play in the next series,"

Rizwan will be seen in action for the Multan Sultans in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL). They will play defending champions Lahore Qalandars in the tournament opener on February 13.
