In a remarkable development, India have handed debut caps to Suryakumar Yadav and KS Bharat in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur.

Just before the toss, it was updated by the broadcasters Star Sports that both Surya and Bharat have been presented with their debut Test caps and would play in this Test.

As expected, Bharat replaces Rishabh Pant, who is rehabilitating from the injuries he sustained due to a life-threatening car accident on new year's eve.

The Andhra batter will don the gloves and probably bat at number six for the hosts. In 86 First-Class appearances, the 29-year-old has amassed 4707 runs, including nine tons, at an average of 37.95.

On the other hand, Surya's inclusion has raised a few eyebrows, as the hosts have taken a bold call of dropping Shubman Gill to accommodate the T20 talisman in their Test XI.

But it was somewhere evident from Rohit Sharma's press conference, as he hinted at India going with a 'horses for courses' approach for this clash.

Meanwhile, Australia have handed debut Test cap to young off-spinner Todd Murphy, who has the reputation of bamboozling the batters with his guile and accuracy.

The visitors have already got a huge advantage by winning the toss. They have replaced dynamic batter Travis Head with the gritty craftsman Peter Handscomb.
