That is it from the 1st Test between India and Australia in this Border Gavaskar Trophy. This is Badal Pareek signing off on behalf of Shakir, DG, and Probuddha.

3:00 PM IST | Arijit: So, India take a vital 1-0 lead and the mind games seemed to have turned into reality for Australia. Hiring an Ashwin imitator didn’t yield sweet fruits as the report card of the first Test displays Australia sinking in the deep sea.

With a trial of 223 runs in the mind, Australia seemed to have succumbed to the added pressure. It was the Ashwin-Jaddu duo that fired clueless deliveries at the Aussie batters and the visitors seemed nowhere near grit.

Wickets fell like nine pins for Australia with the opener Usman Khawaja inaugurating it. Jadeja followed it up by trapping Labuschagne plumb in front. Ashwin removed the pack of left-handers early and Shami cleared the tail in the end.

India Won by an innings and 132 runs, takes 1-0 lead.

Badal: Yes I agree, but if the past BGT series have taught us anything....it is that you don't count the opposition team after 1 test match. Australian squad has the capability to bounce back in the coming test matches and it is going to be an enthralling series if they do so.

Shakir: India have been dominant and have started the series as the Aussies did in 2021. India were bowled out for 36 and the Aussies have been bundled out for 91. Fun Fact: Score of Axar+Rohit+Jadeja>>> Two Innings score of AUS!! It is going to be tough for the Aussies to bounce back from here and they have to show some fighting spirit in the upcoming encounters.

India have won the 1st Test of the Border Gavaskar by an inning and 132 runs.

Wasim Jaffer describes Australian innings with a banger tweet:

Shakir: This has been a very poor outing from Australia, a lot of questions will have to be answered before they head into the next Test.

Review: No bat involved ➡️ Pitching Outside off  ➡️ Impact In-line ➡️ Wickets Umpires Call!!

Boland has taken the review

Shami traps him in front of the stumps, is it all over for Australia?

Badal: Shakir Smith won't be dismissed from here, India will have to get rid of Boland to win now. And, one thing is certain the Australia media is going into caves until the next Test.

Shakir: It just delays the inevitable @Badal!

Badal: Wait a minute! Ohh noo.... Jadeja has over-stepped and it's a no-ball. Smith and Australia survive but just for the moment.

Shakir: Anndd that's a win for India, Jadeja spins past Smith and bowls him with a jaffer. India dominate the first test match.

Bowlleeddd!!! Shami castles Lyon Stumps and India are are 1 wicket away now from a dominant win. That stump went flying

Badal: Murphy chips it straight into the hands of Rohit Sharma, can't watch it anymore, I hope the Australian greats have turned of their televisions.

Number 8 goes down here, Australia are very close to a humiliating innings defeat...

Most wickets in Border Gavaskar trophy -

Anil Kumble - 111
𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗶𝗻 - 𝟵𝟱*
Harbhajan Singh - 95
Nathan Lyon - 95

AUS are 67-7 now.

Caaugghttt behind!! Here's another one. Pat Cummins edges one off Jaddu to the keeper and it looks like this might also be over before the Tea Break.

Let's see some fun reactions from Indian Fans: ⏬

Another left-hander bites the dust here, Australia are 64-6...

Review: No bat involved ➡️ Pitching in-line ➡️ Impact In-line ➡️ Wickets Hitting!!

A track where Australian batter have failed to survive with a straight bat, Carey has the guts to go for the reverse sweep but he fails to get bat on ball...Carey sends it upstairs

Shakir: I agree with you Badal, Indian tail-enders were batting better on this track than what we are seeing from the Aussies. I believe, the difference is not at the batting skill level but in the bowling department. Ashwin-Jadeja-Axar are class spinners on these tracks and if Australia have to come-back in the series they have to do well with the ball!!

Milestone Alert - Ravi Ashwin overtakes Harbhajan Singh for the 2nd most wickets in BGT history as an Indian.

Badal: Things look very dark for Australia. Shakir, this is by no means a rank turner, club cricketers in India play on such deck on a daily basis, so how are they making a meal of this one. Hopefully it doesn't end within the next hour and we head into the final session of the day.

Shakir: The 5th one goes down and it seems that it is going to be a 3-day test at Nagpur

Review: No bat involved ➡️ Pitching in-line ➡️ Impact In-line ➡️ Wickets Hitting!!

And....Ashwin hits Handscomb on the pads here....Big Appeal but the umpire denies and India are goin upstairs for the review. Australia are tottering!

Stat Alert! - Most times getting out against Ravi Ashwin in Test

11 times - David Warner
11 times - Ben Stokes
9 times - Alastair Cook
8 times - Tim Latham

Ashwin gets his third and Aussie left-handers seem to be clueless in front of the spin web of the master....

Review: Pitching outside-off ➡️ Impact In-line ➡️ Wickets Hitting!!

Appeeealll!! Ashwin hits Renshaw's pads and he has been given by the umpire. Renshaw has sent it upstairs.

Another one bites the dust, Warner departs and Australia aon course to lose this Test on Day 3 itself...

Jadeja strikes Australia are 2 down within the first hour of their innings

Relive how Marnus fell prey to Jaddu!!!

Marnus is plumb infront here.

Badal: I think Pujara can be a better option at slip, need a calm man at slip, its not a job of hype and excitement. It is about keeping your cool and focusing on the ball. And, it pains to say that of late the King hasn't been as focused as he was back in the day.

Probuddha: As I was saying yesterday. What will you do of all the fitness when you cannot grab onto important catches???? Anyways, the  best slip fielder is not playing this match, Shubman Gill so you have to do with make shift fieders. The biggest truth is Kohli is a brilliant ground fielder but catches!!?? I refrain from commenting further.

Badal: Mr.Kohli has dropped the third catch of the match if I am not wrong. Pro, how many more before we have someone else at first slip?

Kohli drops Warner at first slip.

Relive the first dismissal of the day:

Shami hits Labuschagne on the pads here, a loud appeal but the umpire is not interested

Rohit has sent it upstairs but the impact is umpires call and Marnus survives

India taste first blood here, Ashwin strikes & Khawaja departs

Tossed up outside off stump, invites the batter into the drive and gets the outside edge here. Virat Kohli takes an easy catch at first slip.

Badal: First wicket will fall in the next four overs, that's my prediction for now.

Looks like Team India is in a hurry, Ashwin comes into the attack...

Probuddha: Within the first 8 overs we will see Ashwin or Jadeja into the attack

Badal: Pro, how many overs before we see a spinner in the attack?

Badal: Let the battle begin...

The Indian have walked out to the middle, Shami has the new ball in his hand and Khawaja and Warner are the openers.

12:07 PM IST: Time for the 2nd session of Day 3

image-ldzk2n60

End of the Indian innings!

Axar misses out on a well deserved hundred. Slower ball from Pat Cummins. Off-cutter as the southpaw went for a wild slog and gets beaten all ends up as the ball castles the stumps. India all-out for 400.

DG, 11:26 AM IST: Aaaand where is the pitch talk now? On the same track, India have scored 400 runs.

India have gone past the 400 mark on this track with a wicket left and Axar crawling his way to a ton..

Axar Patel is slowly closing in on what will be his first Test ton

Pat Cummins is back in the attack...

Badal: Now Axar will put the foot on the accelerator and try to extend the lead to beyond 225.

Murphy gets his 7th wicket as Shami hits it high into the sky and Carey comes underneath, to take it with ease.

Shami (36*) is taking the Australian bowlers to the cleaners, India 379-8 after 131.3

Full ball on off stump, Axar Patel looks to drive the ball and gets beaten on the outside edge. Huge appeal by the Australian team but the umpire does not raise the finger. They go for the review and the replays show that there was no bat involved in it. Signs of desperation here by the Australian team.

Badal: Not sure about Scott Boland having a nightmare series cause he might not feature further. One things is sure it is a nightmare series for 'AUSTRALIA MEDIA'

I believe this is going to be a nightmarish series for Scott Boland. The signs are already evident.

Probuddha, 10:02 PM IST: Agreeing to everything. Warner vs Ashwin that gets me really interested.

Badal: It is IPL nets in whites actually 😂

Probuddha, 9:59 PM IST: David Warner smashing Indian bowlers‼️⁉️🤨 It is not IPL brother.

Yes, Pro now back to the 'Bull' please

Pitching outside off and impact is outside off, Australia lose a review and Shami survives

Australia have decided to send it upstairs here...

Badal: That pocket size dynamo will smash Indian bowlers in the second innings, if not his Test career will slowly fade away. His career is at stake and he will rise to the occasion.

Probuddha: Easily, he is showing better technique than most of the Australian top-order. Especially a certain 'BULL' at the top of the order.

Badal, 9:53 AM IST: Pro, how many will Shami score? Can he go past majority of Aussie batters? I think he will score more runs that 7 of their batters.

Man, this is proper technical batting by Mohammed Shami.

Akshaya: This was the only way Ravindra Jadeja could have been dismissed. Leaving a straight ball and that goes on to hit stumps.

SIXTHHHH ONEEEEEEE, Todd Murphy. Jadeja bites the dust.

Probuddha, 9:47 AM IST: Just now we saw Virat Kohli in his jersey talking to the Indian skip. Are we already thinking of declaration here ⁉️ 🤨

It is interesting though that Jadeja and Axar, two players who are quite similar in their cricketing business are doing the job here for India.

Probuddha, 9:44 AM IST: Ravindra Jadeja, the batter has been one of the biggest assets for India in the last two years. From the time he has got the thought process of a proper batting going on in his psyche he has improved in this trade by leaps and bounds.

India will be looking to take this lead well beyond 200. The main target for the Indians will be to bat only once in this match. Even if India gets to bat in the last innings of the match, they would prefer chasing down something well below 150 runs.

The foot was well grounded behind the crease, it is a NOT OUT.

Probuddha, 9:36 AM IST: It is Nathan Lyon into the attack and I still don't get the reason why is he spoken of in such high regards. Axar Patel is tackling him quite easily. And once again as I say an appeal and the decision has gone upstairs. I am making it a habit of speaking against Lyon and giving scopes to answer me back 🤣🤣.

Badal, 9:30 AM IST: Jadeja and Axar are set to resume the Indian innings..

Hello and a warm welcome to all our viewers to this live coverage of Day 3 of the India vs Australia 1st Test from Nagpur. This is Badal and I will be joined by Probuddha, DG, and Shakir as we take you through this high voltage fixture.

Time for Day 3 action to begin...

image-ldygkxtn(Source: OneCricket)

End of Day 2!

A day that thoroughly belonged to the home team. A Rohit Sharma sublime century, followed by a batting masterclass from Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel has almost taken Australia out of the contest. Team India lead by 144 runs, and will be eager to extend their lead when the new day begins.

Australia started the day with a lot of promise, especially Todd Murphy, who bagged his maiden Test fifer on debut. But apart from that, the wily spinner hardly got any support from the other end.

Australia have a lot to think about, and by tomorrow we'll know which direction this game is heading towards.

Thank you all for joining us. Do join us tomorrow morning, sharp at 9 AM.

Last over of the day.

4:51 PM IST: Aaaaand the game is slipping away for the Aussies. This has been a match-changing partnership for the Indian side.

Matt Renshaw introduced into the attack in the 112th over.

Fifty up for Axar Patel.  His second Test fifty.

DG: Definitely. They have missed a trick by not playing a third spinner. Don't know what was the thinking when they were inspecting the surface. Agar could have batted at number 7, and they could have played a third spinner.

Arijit: Do you think Australia should've included another spinner in the form of Ashton Agar in the line up?

4:23 PM IST: 300 up for India. Width on offer outside the off stump, and Axar does a late cut to propel the ball towards the fences.

4:22 PM IST: Marnus Labuschagne returns for some wrist spin in the 105th over. He replaces Todd Murphy

Arijit, 4:14 PM IST: Fifty runs partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.
IND- 292-7 (102 overs)

4:13 PM IST: Not the first time, that the bowler's landing area is being knocked by the groundsmen.

4:01 PM IST: Jadeja has relieved himself and is back for play to resume.

Arijit, 4:00 PM IST: Jadeja has trod off the field, probably nature's call. The governing players are having a breather.

Probuddha, 3:58 PM IST: This partnership has gradually taken the match away from the visitors. The two players are keeping the scoring rate upto the mark  and are ensuring that wickets don't fall.

Jadeja survives as the impact is umpires call...

Australia have once again sent it upstairs here...

Todd Murphy gets his maiden fifer on debut

It is pitching in line and hitting the wickets, the desicion has been overturned here and Bharat goes back to the hut here

A loud appeal and Australia have taken the review here against debutant KS Bharat

KS Bharat gets his first boundary in Test cricket

In walks debutant KS Bharat...India are 229-6

A touch full in length on the middle and off peg as the ball nips away and uproots the off stump of the Hitman who takes the long walk back here after a terrific ton (120)

Pat Cummins bounces back on the very next ball as he sends Rohit's off peg for a ride

Rohit Sharma has been dropped of the third ball by Steve Smith

The final session of the day is underway here...

That is it for the second session of the day. India are 226-5 after 80 overs. They have a lead of 49 runs and with Jadeja and Rohit out in the middle, they are likely to extend this lead further...

image-ldyae43x

A loud appeal and Jadeja is in trouble, Australia have sent it upstairs here but he survives thanks to umpires call on impact.

Probuddha, 1: 56 PM IST: On a serious note, Kohli and Sachin are once in a generation cricketers. The number of games that they have played for their nation and the times they have rescued their team, actually speak of the calibre that they represent.

Probuddha: Virat Kohli walking in the footsteps of his idol?? Well if not in Test average atleast in this case it seems so.

Most Dismissals against Debutants:
Sachin 35 in 664 matches.
Virat Kohli 19 in 490 matches.

Probuddha, 1:47 PM IST: This partnership is vital for India. I have already said that the team that scores 250 plus in the first innings will win the match. Speaking about the current situation, the Australians have been frustrated by the Indian batters, they are just waiting for things to happen according to me.

DG, 1:43 PM IST: Every single run from here on will hurt the Aussies. On this type of surface, Australia will be etching to dismiss India ASAP. But this partnership has frustrated the visitors.

Two Hundred comes for the Men in Blue, with 5 wickets in hand it looks like Team India will have at least a hundred run lead here...

India are 190-5 | They are slowly closing in on the 200 run mark...

That feeling of getting to a ton #Hitman strikes...

Badal, 1:02 PM IST: That's dig at VK18, fans won't spare you. You need to be a touch careful with what you say. By the way it has been a great knock, he has been untroubled and has pounced on the opportunity to bring up a ton.

Probuddha, 12:59 PM IST: I would say the intent that he showed yesterday, that is where he started winning the small battles. The result is for all to see a really well compiled knock by the Skip. There is a saying - When the going gets tough, the tough gets going, I would say its better you score a century against Australia to return to from rather than in unimportant matches against weak teams.

Badal, 12:58 PM IST: How good is this Hundred by Ro? Give me your honest opinion Probuddha...

ROHIT SHARMA creates history becomes the first batter to have a hundred in each format as a player and a skipper...

Read now:

Probuddha, 12:51 PM IST: Yes Rohit Sharma has been really shown great intent and that has paid off. And as far as Lyon picking up wickets, I would say- do you remember a certain Jason Krezja, he picked up fifer on Indian and after that he just disappeared.

Badal, 12:49 PM IST: Quality of batting also matters mate, let us just shift our focus to Rohit Sharma's 100. I will bounce back with another Garry wicket be patient my friend.

Probuddha, 12:47 PM IST: When you are the lead spinner of an Australian team and all you have managed is picking up one wicket in 21 overs and that too in India, I would say our Ranji bowlers might have done better.

Badal, 12:44 PM IST: Ohh, you said T20 batter, actually that T20 batter has been India's best batter is white ball cricket for over a year. He has a Test cap to his name so I guess it's better than getting a Ranji wicket, don't you agree?

Probuddha, 12:42 PM IST: Well 'The GOAT' has dismissed a T20 batter whom India is trying to make a Test batter forcefully. I don't count this, let him take a real precious wicket, we will talk then Mr. Pareek.

Badal, 12:41 PM IST: Probuddha any comments on the GOAT, letting his ball do the talking...

Length ball on the fifth stump, it pitches and spins back in just a touch to go between bat and pad to rattle his stumps | India are 168-5 after 59.1 overs

Badal, 12:39 PM IST: That's Nathan 'GOAT' Lyon for you, he has cleaned up SKY here...

Probuddha, 12:37 PM IST: Well, Nathan Lyon is looking like the debutant for me. Todd Murphy looks a mile better, he is at least hitting the right length consistently. And I suppose that is why luck has been in his favour.

Badal, 12:26 PM IST: Will SKY take the highway and go after the bowlers? An interesting session is on our hands here...

With the King back in the hut, it is all on RoHitman Sharma...

Probuddha, 12:12 PM: OH!!!!!!! There goes the KING!!!!!!! On a nothing delivery to say the least. This was really really unexpected. The point here is the best batter of the team is making it a habit of getting out to poor deliveries in the purest format. SKY WALKS IN!!!! Let us see how useful does the white ball skills prove for the team??!!!!

Probuddha, 12:04 PM: The second session of the day is about to begin in five minutes. Indians are just 26 runs behind and the skipper, Rohit Sharma is closing in on a century. 15 more runs and Sharma will be part of the history books with this Test century. With Rohit out there is the 'King' Virat Kohli. The Indian fans will be looking at the pair to go big and get a significant lead putting Australia out of the contest. The major target for the Indians will be to bat only once in this tournament.

image-ldy4wv1d(Source: OneCricket)

Probuddha, 11:32 AM IST: The lunch for Day 2 has been called. 28 overs have been bowled in this over, in which India has scored 74 runs and have lost Ravichandran Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are out there.

The Australian bowlers are genuinely looking ineffective. The Ashwin dismissal was still a good delivery but Pujara threw away his wicket. While the Indian spinners were troubling the visiting batters, the pitch seems dead as the home team is batting. I guess all those talks about 'Doctored Pitch' will be silent for now.

Murphy gets the big fish, King Kohli arrives!

This was a bad delivery and Pujara will be gutted with the shot selection. Down the leg side and Pujara goes for the sweep. He fails to keep it down and the short fine leg takes a simple catch.

India are 134-2 after 43.1 overs

No bat involved, pitching in line and impact is outside leg and review is lost...

Australia have once again sent it upstairs here...looks close let's if the Indian skipper survives

Badal, 10:47 AM IST: Just a reminder to all our viewers, India's night watchman Ashwin outscored 7 Australian batters before getting dismissed on what 'Australian media' calls a rank turner.

Ladies & Gentleman, in walks the Wall, Pujara...India are 118-2 after 40.1 overs

Length ball on the stumps Ashwin gets hit on the pads, no ball involved and it is hitting the wickets.

Australia get the first wicket of the day.

This looks close, a loud appeal by Murphy. Australia have sent it upstairs here...

Badal, 10:36 AM IST: Bowling short pitch deliveries to Ro is a crime.

Drinks in the first session of Day 2

This is what Jadeja said before the start of play on Day 2

DG, 10:24 AM IST: ICYMI - Jasprit Bumrah set to miss the final two BGT Tests too as it can be risky to rush him in the World Cup year. (Reported by Telegraph).

India are 111-1; Ashwin and Rohit is full control of the proceedings here at Nagpur...

Probuddha, 10:04 AM IST: Rohit Sharma is taking it on. Mind you Badal and DG, if Rohit gets to the three figure mark, he will be the first man to do so in all formats both as a captain and a a player. He is currently batting at 67, hope he does it soon.

Badal, 9:57 AM IST: I hope any Australian fan doesn't come across this statement of yours because they will come after you for this. See Lyon needs extra bounce to make things happen and that is why he has had so much success in Australia.

Probuddha, 9: 52 AM IST: It was my respect for Ashwin. That we have enough batting depth to allow a man with five centuries to bat at number eight. I have often heard, Nathan Lyon being called a 'Modern Great', but I don't see him doing anything noteworthy even on a subcontinent pitch. For me Nathan Lyon in India would have been finished as a Ranji Legend only.

Badal, 9:50 AM IST: See you are disrespecting Ashwin here, he not just any number 8. He has 5 centuries to his name, RESPECT! RESPECT! RESPECT!

Probuddha, 9:47 AM IST: Yes, I see that they have pulled their lengths back a bit. But I don't see 'Gaza, the Great' impacting the match too much. He is struggliing to even beat the bat of Ravichandran Ashwin, the guy who bats at number eight for us, so let us just leave Gary vs Kohli or Pujara out of the discussion.

Badal, 9:45 AM IST: The wound is still fresh, don't spread salt all over it. As far as the Australian bowlers are concerned they have already made a few changes. They have dragged their length back.

Probuddha, 9:44 AM IST: Good morning Badal!!!! The Aussies were a bit too full yesterday. I hope that today they shorten their length and delay their humiliation a bit more. BTW, I came to know that you were disheartened after seeing Mr. David Warner's stumps going for a cartwheel???

Ashwin vs Nathan Lyon is some battle...

Garry is here, first change for Australia in a couple of overs.

Murphy has the ball in hand to start the proceedings on Day 2. Rohit and Ashwin to resume for India.

Almost time for the start of the Day 2 of this Test...let the fun begin

Shakir, 9:10 AM IST: India will post something around 300 on the board and they might be seen bowling in the final session of the day. Ashwin might contribute significantly with the bat.

DG, 9:08 AM IST: India is going to bat the day out. The Wall and the King will do the taking with the bat.

Badal, 9:07 AM IST : Time to welcome DG and Shakir with an easy question. Where do you see Day 2 of this Test heading?

We are just 25 minutes away from live action on Day 2.

Summary of Day 1: Australia were bowled out for 177 runs on Day 1 after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Jadeja was the man for India as he picked up five wickets.

India came out to bat in the final session of the day. Rohit Sharma's half-century has helped India post 77 runs for the loss of wicket. India trail by 100 runs.

Shakir, 4:32 PM IST: A big shout for LBW and Rohit survives as the ball from Lyon hits him on the pads but the impact was out of the line of off-stump. India have to be weary of this few dying minutes on Day 1.

Ashwin walks out as the number 3, (can't call him a night-watchman!)

Shakir, 4:28 PM IST: WIIICCKKEETTT!!! Murphy gets his first Test wicket and KL Rahul has lifted one straight back to the bowler. Finally Australia has a break-through and they are back in it. Can they get another one here!?

Rohit Sharma brings up his 15th Test Fifty | India are 74-0 after 22 overs.

Wasim Jaffer with a Jaffa Tweet:

50 run partnership is up here! Rohit & KL Rahul look well set and Australia are in for a long struggle...

Badal, 3:57 PM IST: Yes, they have missed a trick here. And, soon might have to use their part timers. A move that can even backfire with Indian batters dancing down and taking the attack to the opposition.

Shakir, 3:56 PM IST: I have a serious question here for you Badal. Do Australia lack the variety in their spin attack. A left-armer could have provided them some variety and maybe their bowling attack would have been more effective than what we are seeing here...

Shakir, 3:53 PM IST: Siiixxx!! Rohit dances down and smokes it straight down the ground for the first maximum of the match. Lyon has not been as effective as Australians will like him to be

Shakir, 3:45 PM IST: A much needed drinks break for the Aussies. Nothing seems to be going right for them and this will provide them the time to re-assess their plans and maybe comeback strong in the last segment of today's play.

Badal, 3:33 PM IST: If they don't get a wicket before the session ends they might not stand any chance in this Test. A lot will depend on what happens in the next hour.

Shakir, 3:31 PM IST: India motoring along nicely, after 9 overs India are 35-0 and haven't even looked in trouble. Both the batters KL & Rohit are looking comfortable. This could be a long stay for the Aussie bowlers in the park.

Nice one, from Badal!

Shakir, 3:21 PM IST: As the saying goes, don't judge a pitch until both the teams have batted on it.  And, now India are making it look like a way better pitch to bat on. Can the Aussies collect themselves back and strike?

Badal, 3:15 PM IST: While Rohit Sharma is showing intent Rahul is being ultra defensive which can cost him big time on this deck...

Meanwhile, Garry has been introduced in the attack. Let's see how much help Nathan Lyon gets off this deck...

Missing Pant be like: "Ek tha jo wicket ke peeche se commentators ki naukri khane me lga tha...."

The Indian bowling was on point but we did miss some fun from behind the stumps from someone special....⏬

Shakir, 3:00 PM IST: Well the way things are going it seems that can happen only if the Aussie spinners bowl well and that for me will be the most crucial factor in the series whether or not this Australian side will challenge India in the series!

Badal, 3:00 PM IST: Time for a bold prediction from my end. India will lose 3 wickets in the session.

Indian Innings has started and Rohit has started with three boundaries off Pat Cummins in the first over to kick-off things in fine fashion for India

Innings done and dusted

A thorough professional performance from India. Australia have been bundled out for 177. Looks like a carrom ball from Ashwin which deceived Boland. He gets beaten all ends up and the stumps are disturbed. Eight wickets between Ash-Jaddu

image-ldww76m5

Jadeja gets a fifer on his return!

Handscomb has gone up for the review. It was full on the middle stump and the batter misses the connection on his attempted sweep. Looks plumb from the naked eye. And yess, three reds and Handscomb's resistance is finally broken. 11th five-wicket haul for Jadeja.

Some Fun

And we are back for the final session

India need 2 wickets to wrap things up. Don't be surprised if in the next 15 minutes KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma come out to bat.

Australia are 174-8 in 60.0 overs at Tea on Day 1, India bank six wickets in the session.

image-ldwv27vu

And with that it is time for Tea on Day 1, and India have taken this session comprehensively by picking up 6 wickets!! Jadeja has picked up 4 wickets and was the pick of the bowlers picking up both the big boys Marnus and Smith in the session.

Number 8 goes down! Ohh! wait Murphy has sent it upstairs here.

No bat involved, the ball is pitching in line and hitting the wickets, Australia lose another wicket. The visitors are close to bundled out.

Australia are 172-7 after 57.4 overs.

Another one bites the dust here, wicket number 451 for Ashwin. Length ball just outside off, invites Pat Cummins forward and takes the outside edge of the blade into the hands of 'The King'

7th one goes down for Australia, Kohli takes an easy catch at first slip.

Ashwin becomes the second Indian after Anil Kumble to 450 Test wickets. He is the second quickest to reach the milestone behind Muttiah Muralitharan.

Ash has done it in 89 matches whereas Murali did in just 80 matches.

It is getting difficult for the Aussies out in the middle...it's turning square!

Umpires have gone upstairs for a stumping call

Lovely line from Jaddu. Tossed up, drifting away and draws the batter forward. Handscomb goes for a drive and gets beaten all ends up. Umpires go upstairs for a stumping review, but the back-foot was well behind the line.

Ash gets 450 Test wickets!

What an achievement for the champion bowler. There was no need for Carey to go for the reverse sweep. He was playing with the fire. Tossed up on the stumps. He gets an under-edge on the attempted reverse sweep as the ball goes onto castle the stumps.

Fifty partnership up!

Oh boy, Australia needed that desperately. They were tottering at one stage, but Carey and Handscomb have somewhat resurrected the sinking ship. India can't be complacent at this stage.

DG, 1:30 PM IST: A nice little partnership developing between Carey and Handscomb. Both the batters have decided to take an aggressive route, which could be a good way to tackle the spinners on this surface

Australia are 135-5, they are slowly inching towards the 150 run mark...

A moment that might define this Test match! Jadeja rattling the stumps of Smith

Badal, 1:12 PM IST: I think his performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 comes close but yes he is yet to pull off something similar to Ben Stokes vs Australia at Headingley.

Shakir, 1:09 PM IST: But, consider it my personal bias, I will go with Ben Stokes. By the way, has Jadeja done something like Headingley?

Badal, 1:06 PM IST: Jadeja is at par with Ben Stokes, while the world might prefer Stokes as the best but Jadeja's x-factor in the field makes him stand alongside Ben. I don't think there is player who can pick a fifer, score a hundred and run-out the oppositions best batter like Sir Jadeja.

Shakir, 1:05 PM IST: Is Jadeja the greatest all-rounder in modern red ball cricket?

Australia are 119-5 after 44 overs

Badal, 12:59 PM IST: 200 looks like a distant dream for Australia from here on...

Jaddu with a ripper!

When the ball is turning, just give the ball to Sir Ravindra Jadeja. Smith plays for the turn, but gets beaten by the arm ball. He leaves a big bat-pad gap and the ball sneaks through the gap to disturb the stumps. Australia's best batter departs. Trouble calling.....

Hundred comes up for Australia, Smith is taking the attack to the opposition...#SmudgeShow

Umpire's call and Matt Renshaw joins Labuschagne in the dugout! Australia are 84-4 after 36 overs.

That's two in two for Sir Jadeja, Australia have sent it upstairs but it looks out to the naked eye.

Jadeja invites Labuschagne into the drive and beats him all ends up to send him packing. KS Bharat gets his first Test stumping here...

DG, 12:22 PM IST: Bold Prediction - This series will all be about Labuschagne and Smith vs the Indian bowlers. Just love how confident both the batters are against the quality Indian spinners.

Badal, 12:10 PM IST: I guess we will soon see Ashwin & Sir Jadeja bowl together in tandom and that phase might decide who ends up winning the day.

Shami has the ball in his hand to start off the second session...

The players have walked onto the field. Time for some action. Fifty loading for Marnus Labuschagne...

DG, 12:05 PM IST: We are five minutes away from the start of the second session. Labuschagne and Smith have done well to negate the spin threat, and will be looking to continue the same pattern.

We will be back live at 12:00 PM IST with the second session.

DG, 11:36 AM IST: Australia have done well to get the past the first session without any further damage after being 2 down in no time. India's might find it difficult in the next session with the pitch being the best to bat on in the afternoon.

Badal, 11:35 AM IST: With the first session done and dusted, guys what are your thoughts on the action so far?

Read the session review here: IND vs AUS: Smith, Labuschgane frustrate India with impeccable resistance

That is it for the first session of Day 1 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia are 76-2 after 32 overs.

Smudge & Labuschagne are well set here, looks like it going to be hard day in the middle for Team India.

DG, 11:16 AM IST: Steven Smith has an average of 63 and Marnus Labuschagne has an average of 73 against spin in Tests.

Arijit, 11:13 AM IST IST: An inside edge saves Marnus in the 27th over. And right in the next ball he gets beaten on the outside edge. Shoutout to Jadeja for a superb over with good variation in pace.

Arijit, 11:07 AM IST: Since 2020, Virat Kohli has dropped 7 catches and grabbed 17 chances in Test.

Arijit, 11:05 AM IST:
It's worth noting that there is a bit of uneven bounce in the surface. The region outside the off stump of a right hander had some steep bounce as well.

DG, 11:01 AM IST:
Fifty partnership up between Smith and Labuschagne. It's so good to see two foreign players neutralising the spin effect to perfection. So far, so good from the two batters.

Jadeja's bowl almost kissed Smith's off peg on its way into the glove of KS Bharat.

Badal, 10:58 AM IST: The wait is over, hopefully India's ace spinner can get one better over the Aussie star duo.

Ladies and Gentleman, Ravichandran Ashwin is here.

Badal, 10:51 AM IST: Ashwin be like - let the boys have some fun before I arrive. 😎

Shakir, 10:50 AM IST: Meanwhile deviating from the serious discussion. Indian Fans are like - Ashwin Kaha hai!? Kaha hai Ashwin!!?

Cricket Australia throwing some light on the low bounce at Nagpur! They are living in fear here:

Badal, 10:45 AM IST: If they get to something over 250 in the first innings, India will have to play exceptional cricket to get back in the game. Having said that, let me assure you they are not going beyond 250 on this deck.

DG, 10:44 AM IST: There is a reason as to why they are two of the best Test batters at the moment. This is actually going to be a litmus test for the Indian bowlers. If these two stay at the crease for some more time, expect hundreds from both the batters. Moreover, anything in excess of 250 is a winning score on this surface.

Shakir, 10:43 AM IST: Smith-Marnus looking good here @DG @Badal!? If Australia can get to 250+..with India batting 4th on this pitch we gotta say we will have a match on our hands!

If you have just joined us, have a look at the first two wickets of the day below:

Kohli drops Smith at first slip off Axar, it went quickly but we expect 'The King' to do better.

Badal, 10:39 AM IST: Australian media has started the talk here with the first wicket itself. Don't know what will happen if the Test ends in 3 days time.

DG, 10:36 AM IST: Ravi Shastri said, "anything over 200 on this wicket will be a good score."

Badal, 10:35 AM IST: Axar is bowling it over 90kmph, needs to bowl a few around 85kmph to extract turn on this deck.

After the end of the first hour, Australia are 29-2. It has been a dream start for India courtesy Shami & Siraj.

Badal, 10:28 AM IST: I agree that Head has been a very important player for the team of late. I think they should have trusted him here because he has been in form for a while. Benching him will not send the right signal to the player.

Shakir, 10:26 AM IST: What about Travis Head?! It was a shocker from Captain Pat in the toss that he isn't part of the Aussies XI! He has been their Rishabh Pant throughout the Summer.

Shakir, 10:24 AM IST: Definitely feel for Gill, especially with the kind of red hot form he is in. But I believe it was more of a problem of plenty for the Indian side and they don't want to change his role and make him play in the middle order. Plus Surya in the middle order can be the attacking option that we are missing in the absence of Rishabh Pant

DG, 10:20 AM IST: Steve Smith averages 72 against India in Tests. Interestingly, he has an average of 60 in India. India need to get his wicket ASAP...

Badal, 10:18 AM IST: When it comes to deserving a chance, don't you think Gill should have made it? He was one of our heroes down under.

Badal, 10:17 AM IST: Yes, he did deserve a chance but since India prefer horses for courses, Axar makes sense. We already know that there is rough outside the left hander's off stump, so Jadeja and Axar can make use of that.

Shakir, 10:16 AM IST: I have a question for you BP. Did Kuldeep deserve a go here especially with Jadeja in the XI?

Badal, 10:15 AM IST: Morning Shakir, I agree that Siraj is going to be a big threat but pyschologically the Australians will fear the spinners more than the pacers on this deck.

Shakir, 10:11 AM IST: Good Morning guys, I don't feel so Badal, with the type of form Siraj is in he is looking as dangerous as the spinners on this track.

Badal, 10:09 AM IST: Looks like Australia can breathe easy here, Siraj is back in the attack. Jadeja was brought into the attack to change Siraj's end.

Stat Alert! - 27, 109, 8, 28, 178*, 21, 111 & 17 - These are the scores Smith registered last time he toured India in 2017. 499 runs with 3 centuries at an average of 71!! Can he repeat this feat!?

Axar Patel comes into the attack from the other end..

Badal, 10:03 AM IST: The very first ball has turned. Hell ya, it's a rank turner. How long can Smudge & Labuschagne survive?

Sir Ravindra Jadeja is here. Spin for the first time today

DG, 9:59 AM IST: Australia's two best batters are at the crease. Smith and Labuschagne will be looking to consolidate the innings. If these two stay at the crease for long, god help India.....

Smudge plays a glorious cover drive for his first boundary 🔥

DG, 9:51 AM IST:
And the banter has begun between Siraj and Labuschagne. Not surprised at all, Siraj is a hot headed customer. This is going to be an interesting battle.

First boundary of the day!

Marnus with a straight bat and didn't try to hit it too hard. Siraj overcooks the fuller length ball and Marnus dispatches it towards the boundary ropes.

Shami, you beauty!

India have their second wicket. Nip-backer and Warner has to depart. A perfect Test match line and length from the Indian maestro. It comes back in and breaches Warners' defence. The stumps go for a cartwheel.

Badal, 9:38 AM IST:  Wait on boys, Marnus 'no run' Labushagne is here..

India taste first blood and it is some start by the Indian team..the ball has pitched on leg stump and it is hitting the wickets! Khawaja departs..

Appeal! A peach of a delivery that nips back in and hits him on the pads, the umpire is not interested but Rohit has sent it upstairs..

Siraj from the other end

DG, 9:35 AM IST: The ball is already keeping low. And this is just the first over. Geez, we are in for a tough ride.

Badal, 9:31 AM IST: Shami starts off with 3 slips, this going to be an interesting battle...

DG, 9:29 AM IST: What if I say, R Ashwin might even open the bowling attack....

Badal, 9:28 AM IST: Hello guys, by the way I would love to start with a small query. How many over before Ashwin comes into the attack? Warner hates playing him that's for sure...

And the players have made their way out

The much-awaited series is finally here. Time for the national anthems!

DG, 9:23 IST: Chasing on this surface will be a tough task for the home team. A good toss to win for Pat Cummins. As our correspondent Sandipan Banerjee said, India would love to restrict the Aussies to under 200 in the first innings.

India Playing XI: Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma (c), Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Srikar Bharat (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

Toss Update

Australia have won the toss and they will bat first!! Todd Murphy and Peter Handscomb are in. For India, as we already know - KS and SKY are making their debuts. And the five bowlers are Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Md. Shami and Md. Siraj.

Pitch Report by Sanjay Manjrekar and Matthew Hayden: My first impression is the soil looks pretty rough. You can see the cracks as well, but because there is grass the cracks may stay intact. But the real talking point here is the rough area right here - the left-hander against the left-arm spinner, it's going to be a nightmare for them.

New from the centre

Suryakumar Yadav and KS Bharat are all set to their India Test debuts!!

Todd Murphy will also be getting his Baggy Green today.

Hello and welcome to OneCricket's Live Blog of the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia at Nagpur.
