It was a brilliant opening day of the Semi-finals in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, full of some dominating individual performances. Let’s take a quick view on the action transpired.

Majumdar, Gharami hits ton, puts Bengal in control against MP

Bengal is off to a commanding start as they are 307 for four at the end of day one, thanks to. Sudip Gharami and Anustup Majumdar, who stole the show with the bat, scoring centuries and adding a mammoth 241 runs for the third wicket. The defending champions had a decent start with the ball, reducing Bengal to 51 for two inside the first hour of play, including the in-form Abhimanyu Easwaran.

Gharami, at three and Majumdar, at four, started to stitch a partnership and went on to bat almost the rest of the day. Both of them completed their third century of the season after tea and got Bengal into a commanding position at the end of the day. Madhya Pradesh on the other side has had a pretty similar start like the quarter-final against Andhra. They managed to dismiss both Gharami and Majumdar just before stumps and would be keen to make a strong comeback to bowl Bengal out as early as possible on day two.

Mayank Agarwal’s classic ton kept Karnataka going

A fighting century from Mayank Agarwal, well complimented by Srinivas Sharath with a half century, led Karnataka to strong finish at day one stumps. Saurashtra won a very important toss and invited the hosts to bat first, on a surface which looked green and a paradise for the seamers in the opening morning. Despite the absence of Jaydev Unadkat, Saurashtra got off to a great start, reducing Karnataka to 78 for three at the end of the first session.

The hosts kept losing wickets after the lunch and were further five down with only 112 on the board. Karnataka’s wicket keeper batter, at seven, joined Agarwal and started the rebuilding process.  Agarwal completed his century in the third session, his third of the season and got Karnataka over 200 without any further damage. Sharath also completed his half century, adding an unbeaten 117-run till the end of day one and Karnataka finished the day with 229 for five.
