Former England cricket captain, Joe Root, is widely recognized as a purist and traditionalist with the bat, characterized by his conventional technique and the artistry of his stroke-play. However, recently, the stylish right-hander has been indulging in unorthodox stroke-making, showcasing an unprecedented level of audacity in his shots, as witnessed during his stint with the Dubai Capitals in the International League T20.

As the England side makes its way to New Zealand for the highly anticipated two-match series against the Kiwis, they are currently engaged in a warm-up game against the New Zealand XI in Hamilton where England elected to bat first after winning the toss. Root, who stepped up to the crease following the fall of the second wicket, began to unleash a barrage of shots that had the New Zealand XI bowlers ducking for cover.

Amongst the many shots that caught the eye was Root's reverse scoop, which he executed with aplomb and sent soaring over the boundary rope for a maximum. Root's innings came to an end after tea, having scored 77 runs off 69 deliveries, reaching his half-century mark with that aforementioned reverse scoop shot, before being scalped by Adithya Ashok.

At the time of writing, England are 375/5, with Ben Foakes and Daniel Lawrence at the crease, both accumulating scores of 33 and 85 runs respectively.
