There's a temptation to play three spinners; I can bat at 5: KL Rahul before Nagpur Test

The start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 is less than 48 hours away, with both teams putting hard yards in Nagpur's Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. However, Team India's composition still isn't looking settled.

There still needs to be clarity on whether Shreyas Iyer is fit enough to play at number 5 in the first Test match against Australia. If not, would Suryakumar Yadav make his Test debut, or will the team management be trying Shubman Gill on that spot?

The keeper's choice has also emerged as a headache; India need to gamble between the better keeper KS Bharat or the gung-ho batter Ishan Kishan. 

Bowling options are a whole different issue. With four spinners and three seamers, the Rohit Sharma-led unit has to look at various permutations and combinations to beat the mighty Australia batting.

Although, in the pre-match press conference, Indian vice-captain KL Rahul shed light on the bowling combination with which India will go in the Nagpur Test match.

"There's a temptation to play three spinners. We did see it, but it's too early to really know what the pitch is going to do. We still have to on the day to know what the pitch is going to do. We are playing in India and the pitches are gonna spin."

Further in the presser, the Indian opening bat spoke about the role of Shubman Gill, who is going through the purplest patch of his life, saying that he is open bat in the middle order if the situation arrives.  

Rahul also hinted about India's preparation against Australia's seam bowlers, who can be equally threatening with new and old balls.  

"Reverse swing plays a huge role in India, we have seen it in the past. Any team that has quality seam bowlers, who can exploit reverse swing, will be dangerous on these pitches (in India). But that is something that have prepared in the last week."
