The Big Bash League season 12 finale was one for the ages. The world witnessed Brisbane Heat collide against Perth Scorchers in a nail-biting contest.

In the end, Scorchers held their nerves and prevailed by 5-wickets to clinch their fifth BBL title. The star of the show was skipper Ashton Turner, who produced a magical knock of 53 in a tense run-chase, but there was a youngster who hogged the limelight post the finale.

Cooper Connolly was cool as a cucumber, and smashed a quick-fire 11-ball 25, that eventually sealed the deal for the Scorchers. He was applauded for his level-headed performance, and the youngster was in awe of the crowd support. The big stage didn't bother the 19-year-old as he steered his side past the winning line.

"Hobson was pretty good. He played some sensational strokes and things went my way. The crowd is fantastic. Today was the perfect opportunity for me to chip in. I have been in and out of the team and I’m really pleased to step up when the opportunity came."

Heat had the game under control when Turner was back in the hut. Scorchers needed 38 off the last 18 balls, when Connolly smacked James Bazley for 18 runs and brought his side back in the contest.

Nick Hobson finished things off in style, as he struck a six followed by a boundary to win it for his side in the last over.
