In a significant development, Dubai Capitals have named veteran Indian batter Yusuf Pathan their captain for the remainder of the inaugural ILT20 season. Pathan replaces Rovman Powell, who was leading the side right from the beginning.

Earlier this morning, the Capitals took to their official social media handle to make the announcement via a tweet, which read,

"The GMR-owned Dubai Capitals today announced Yusuf Pathan as new captain for remainder of ILT20, currently being held in the UAE. The Dubai Capitals will take on the MI Emirates in their last league stage match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The team is currently in fifth place in the points table."

Speaking of the Capitals, they have had an underwhelming campaign in the ILT20 this season. With only seven points to their tally, they languish at the fifth position in the standings, managing three wins in nine outings.

Furthermore, Pathan has also had a disastrous time with the bat in the tournament, managing only 56 runs at an ordinary average of 18.66 and an abysmal strike rate of 114.28.

So, considering his poor run, the Capitals' decision to appoint him their skipper has obtained mixed reactions from the cricket fraternity.

Meanwhile, Dubai Capitals will play their final group-stage encounter against the rampant MI Emirates tonight.
