Shimron Hetmyer's 35-ball 54 proved to be a decisive factor during the Gulf Giants' pursuit of a victory as they vanquished Desert Vipers by 25 runs in the 27th match of the ILT20 2023.

Genuine effort pushes Giants to 180

A decent start by the English duo of Tom Banton and James Vince who batted 4.5 overs together for a 46-run stand ensured a decent start for the side. Skipper Vince slammed 39 from 23 balls thumping two sixes and three fours but the wickets kept falling at the other end causing the run rate to decline.

However, Caribbean superstar Hetymer rocked the opposition bowlers banging four sixes during his stay at the crease for 35 deliveries where he recorded 54. Reaching the end of the innings, they somehow crawled to 180.

Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets while giving away 36 runs, bowling four overs.

Disciplined bowling keeps Desert Vipers in check

Chasing 181 for victory, Vipers had a wonderful start too courtesy of Rohan Mustafa and Alex Hales forming a 57-run partnership for the first wicket. But all this went in vain as they lost five wickets in a matter of no time from 57 for no loss, they were 88 for five with skipper Colin Munro, Sam Billings and Alex Hales already in the pavilion.

Some late fightback by Tom Curran didn't really helped their cause as they could only manage 155 by the end of their 20 overs with the English all-rounder being the highest run-scoring with 42 runs.

As many as six bowlers came to bowl and claimed a wicket each, putting brakes throughout crucial junctures of the game as they lost by 25 runs.
