You ask anybody who their favourite cricketer is, and the reply would be - Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster was a special player who entertained cricket fans across the globe for 24 years.

There were days when he was down and out, but he never gave up. Through injuries and adversities he battled and became a champion cricketer.

In 1999, Pakistan toured India for a high-octane Test series. In the Chennai Test, India needed 271 to clinch a famous win. But the home side were tottering at 24 for 2, when Sachin walked out to bat. Interestingly, he was suffering from back pain and couldn't move properly. It was his sheer determination which propelled the champion batter to battle through pain.

Despite his heroic century against a potent Pakistan bowling attack, India lost the game by the barest of margins, but Tendulkar won all the applauds.

Former India spinner, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, shared an interesting anecdote about Sachin Tendulkar regarding the Chennai Test match.

Chennai track generally assists the spinner, so Tendulkar called up Sivaramakrishnan, to bowl to him, so that he could prepare for the Pakistan spin threat.

Here's what the former cricketer said:

"Sachin asked TNCA to call me and ask if I was free to come and bowl to him in the nets. I was delighted and said yes. We were at MRF practice facility and I was bowling normally ie over the stumps. Later Sachin asked me to bowl around the stumps."

Despite India's defeat, Tendulkar was at his imperial best and almost snatched the win from the jaws of defeat.
