Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape shared two points each after the Match 25 of the SA20 2023 was abandoned due to rain on Friday at Durban.

Earlier, the game between Paarl Royals and Joburg Super Kings was also washed out at Johannesburg.

Sunrisers had an average start to the game

Invited to bat first, the Sunrisers were off to a blistering start in the first two overs, with Adam Rossington going all guns blazing with his ball-striking abilities.

However, the second over witnessed Reece Topley causing havoc to dismiss Temba Bavuma (0) and Jordan Hermann (0)  in successive balls. Soon, Wiaan Mulder got the better of Aiden Markram (6).

Until the rain interruption, Rossington was at the crease with 35* off 18, while JJ Smuts on 9*. After the match ended as a draw, it has put a dent on the qualification hopes for Super Giants.

They needed all four points to stay in the race for the playoffs. With 14 points in nine games, they will require to win their last fixture against Pretoria Capitals with a big margin. Meanwhile, Sunrisers have qualified for the playoffs with 19 points.

Brief Scores:

Sunrisers Eastern Cape - 53/3 (5.2)

Adam Rossington 35* (18), JJ Smuts 9* (4)
Reece Topley 2/20, Wiaan Mulder 1/7

No result (due to rain)
