In a significant development, former Indian seamer Joginder Sharma has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

He took to his official Twitter handle to make the announcement. The 39-year-old also thanked the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association and the Indian fans for their constant support throughout his career.

After a string of impressive performances in the domestic circuit, Sharma made his international debut in an ODI against Bangladesh. Although he was economical, his inability to pick wickets eventually led to his exclusion from the 50-over format only after four matches.

However, he got a second chance to show his mettle in white-ball cricket, being picked for the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, playing a perfect fiddle to the likes of RP Singh and Irfan Pathan in the tournament.

Despite playing only four T20Is, the Haryana pacer became a household name after picking the final wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq in the all-important final. Although Irfan Pathan starred with the ball, Sharma's name was etched in the memory of a billion Indians due to that last wicket which India desperately needed to lift the title.

After being sidelined from the national setup, he was active in domestic cricket till 2017. Overall, the Rohtak-born amassed 4269 runs and claimed 473 wickets in 220 domestic appearances across formats.
