Combination of ICC and boards working together will drive women's cricket forward: Wasim Khan

2023 is already a monumental year in women's cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India-run Women's Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to take place in March, the ICC Women's T20 World Cup is around the corner, and the recently concluded Under-19 T20 World Cup, which India won, was a big success.

Wasim Khan, ICC General Manager, has hailed both the BCCI and the ICC for their constant work to take women's cricket to greater heights. 

In a statement, Khan said the prices for which the WPL franchises were sold only proves the potential women's cricket posses, and that authorities needed to work together.

Here's what Khan stated

"I know that, particularly around Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and Pakistan and places like that, there’s still a lot of development required in terms of really valuing women’s cricket, but certainly, it’s a lot better than what it was 12 to 18 months ago.

So, I think, we very much want to happen in India as a catalyst to try and really drive the game to even greater levels. And I think that combination of ourselves working with the cricket boards, we certainly believe that in five years’ time, the landscape is gonna (going to) look very, very different,”

Last year saw the introduction of the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), while the Hundred Women, and Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) already were big tournament.

Interestingly, the PCB, postponed their launch of the Women's PSL to a later date this year.
