Gritty Vihari, Gopal's century highlights Day 2 of Quarter-finals in Ranji Trophy

It was a brilliant Day 2 of the quarter-final stage in Ranji Trophy, with some brilliant team performances and courageous effort which earned accolades from all around the cricketing world. Let's take a quick view on the action transpired.

Captain courageous ft. Hanuma Vihari

Andhra continued on their overnight score of 262/2, with both Ricky Bhui and Karan Shinde went on to add 251 runs in total for the third wicket. Karan Shinde completed another century this season and Andhra were cruising towards a mammoth total. Madhya Pradesh’s Anubhav Agarwal managed to take the breakthrough, dismissing Shinde first and Andhra went on to lose seven wickets in a span of thirty runs.

However, Hanuma Vihari, who suffered a fracture on Day 1, came to bat after the ninth wicket and added 26 runs for the final wicket. Andhra finished with 379 on the board. In reply, Madhya Pradesh started their innings briskly but went on to lose regular wickets and ended 144 for 4 at stumps.

Prabhsimran, Naman centuries lead Punjab’s charge

Prabhsimran Singh and Naman Dhir’s centuries led Punjab’s fight back in reply to Saurashtra’s first innings score of 303. Resuming the day at three for none, Punjab finished with 327 for five at the end of day 2. Punjab’s openers, Prabhsimran and Naman scored 126 and 131 respectively and added 212 runs for the first wicket.

However, Pukhraj Mann, Anmolpreet Singh and Nehal Wadhera could not score much but skipper Mandeep Singh, alongside Anmol Malhotra took Punjab past Saurashtra’s first innings total, with no further damage. Punjab finished the day with 24-runs lead.

Bengal 65 ahead of Jharkhand at the end of Day 2

After bowling Jharkhand out for 173 on Day 1, skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sudip Gharami put Bengal in control, adding 136 runs for the second wicket, taking Bengal almost over the line in the first innings. Gharami departed after scoring 68, followed by Easwaran, finishing with 77. Bengal went on to take first innings lead, ending on 238 for five at stumps with a commanding 65-run lead.

Gopal century powers Karnataka to a mammoth lead

A dominating day with the bat for Karnataka as five of their batters scored more than fifty, with Shreyas Gopal ending the day with fifth first-class century. Resuming the day at 123 for none, Mayank Agarwal, R Samarth, Devdutt Padikkal and Nikin Hose departed after scoring half centuries.

Gopal and Manish Pandey joined hands to add another hundred runs, this time for the fifth wicket. Although Pandey could not score a fifty, Gopal went on to complete his century and helped Karnataka’s lead go past 350 at the end of the day. The eight times winner ended the day with 474 with five wickets in hand.
