In a remarkable turn of events, Welsh Fire have appointed legendary former Australian batter Michael Hussey as their head coach ahead of The Hundred 2023. The 47-year-old replaces Gary Kirsten, who had an ordinary coaching stint with the Men in Red in the first two seasons.

Hailed as Mr Cricket, Hussey served Australia with distinction between 2004 and 2013. Despite being a late bloomer, the stylish southpaw gradually established himself as a mainstay in the Australian batting lineup, amassing 12398 runs in 302 outings across formats.

The West Australian also had prolific success in various lucrative global T20 leagues, powering his teams to multiple titles through his impactful performances.

He was predominantly fruitful in the Indian Premier League, where he represented the two most incredible teams, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, to perfection.

On the other hand, Welsh Fire had two back-to-back disastrous campaigns in the premier Hundred-ball tournament, finishing as the bottom-sitters on both the occasions.

So, this move has likely been taken to evolve their performance in the showpiece event. Considering Hussey's experience and game-reading ability, we expect the talisman to bring positive changes for Welsh Fire going forward.
