AB de Villiers fussed over unusual break between SA20

With T20 leagues growing rapidly around the world, the calendar is getting tighter and tighter each passing year. In fact, in January only, around five different leagues were running simultaneously.

One of the newest tournaments launched in South Africa SA 20 where some of the biggest stars are participating and all the six franchises are owned by IPL sides. However, in between the league, there is a gap of around eight days to accommodate the ongoing three-match ODI series between England and South Africa.

This has caused the former Proteas and RCB superstar AB de Villiers to put his fingers on the uneven break during the tournament as he is still not convinced with this idea. According to him, the days are getting lesser as compared to the number of matches happening. He believes that leagues do bring financial stability with them which is crucial for the sustainability of the sport.

"I don't think it's ideal, to be honest. It is so complicated and so difficult to get the scheduling right and to keep everyone happy. We want to see our countries take on each other. It's the base and the ultimate form of viewership. With all these leagues, you can't deny that the excitement is there. It's financially healthy for everyone,"

Moreover, he expects the arrangement to become better in the upcoming seasons where both T20 cricket and international leagues are given equal importance.

"There's just not enough days in a year. I don't think it's ideal to break up a T20 tournament. I just hope they get the scheduling right in a way where we can have full focus on the domestic leagues. But also a full, intense focus on international cricket around the world."

de Villiers was associated with the SA20 as a commentator and again linkup with them when the league resumes on 2nd February.
