With the women's T20 World Cup just around the corner, South Africa have announced their 15-member squad for the mega event, set to take place in February.

The experienced Sune Luus will lead the side as South Africa's quest for their maiden world title continues.

However, in a surprising decision, Dane van Niekerk has been. omitted from the squad. It was reported that Dane has not made the two kilometre time trial and therefore has fallen out of South Africa's fitness standards.

Barring her exclusion, the South African squad is filled with experienced players, as they start their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka women on February 10.

The likes of Nadine de Klerk, Anneke Bosch, and Laura Wolvaardt will have the responsibility in the batting department.

One area, where South Africa women have been generally strong is the bowling department. The veteran Shabnim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka will form a formidable trio when it comes to the pace attack.

Currently, the Proteas women are playing in a tri-series, featuring India and West Indies. They have already reached the finals of the tournament and will play against India.

The Women's T20 World Cup begins on February 10.
