Lucknow’s WPL 2023 franchise to be called Lucknow Warriors

Capri Global Holdings, who recently won the ownership rights for Lucknow franchise of the Women’s Indian Premier League, have finally revealed their team’s name. They acquired the rights for a staggering amount of ₹757 crores, as revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in January.

Lucknow Warriors becomes second team to be named for WPL

The Capri Global’s acquiring of WIPL’s Lucknow franchise further expanded their global sporting presence, which already included teams in PKL, Kho Kho League and UAE’s ILT20.

In a statement announced by the finance business on January 30, they announced the name of their latest team, labelling the Lucknow-based team as Lucknow Warriors.

Notably, their ILT20 franchise is named as Sharjah Warriors, and their PKL and Kho Kho League teams are called Bengal Warriors and Rajasthan Warriors.

Rajesh Sharma, Managing Director of Capri Global, recently expressed his excitement over acquiring a team in the much-awaited Women’s IPL. He said:

“We are extremely proud to be a part of this historic moment in cricket, especially in being able to extend our support to some of the tremendously talented women in sports. Our aim is to provide inspiration to athletes and women in all walks of life, while breaking stereotypes.”
