Disciplined bowling, followed by a dominating chase with the bat helped Dubai Capitals outclass Abu Dhabi Knight Riders convincingly by seven wickets in the 22nd Match of the ongoing International League T20 (ILT20) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Zampa-Raza spins out Knight Riders

After being asked to bat first, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders got off to a great start in the powerplay but lost two wickets and 53 runs on the board. Paul Stirling did not disturbed the scoreline as the Irish international departed for a 7-ball duck. His partner Joe Clarke, at the other end, was scoring briskly and went on to complete his half century in just 24 balls.

As Clarke was looking to continue the onslaught, Adam Zampa trapped him lbw in his very first over. Following the wicket of Clarke, the Knight Riders could not capitalize the good start as they could only score 33 off the next seven overs until Andre Russell extracted 16 off Raza’s last over.

However, the Capitals kept Russell quiet till the end and the home side in what looked like a good batting pitch, could post only 149 in twenty overs. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers, grabbing three wickets and gave away just 16 off his four overs.

While chasing 150, Dubai Capitals got off to a flying start as Niroshan Dickwella took everyone to cleaners and added in the first six overs. Fellow opener, George Munsey started slowly but once Dickwella departed after the powerplay, the Scottish international started to open his arms.

Munsey completed his half century in 35 balls and stitched a 62-run partnership with Dasun Shanaka for the second wicket. Rovman Powell, at four, gave the finishing touch with a couple of sixes against Russell and Dubai Capitals chased down the total with more than two overs to spare.

Akeal Hosein was the only positive with the ball for the Knight Riders as the left-arm spinner gave just 21 runs and grabbed a wicket as well off his four overs spell. Another disappointing outing for Sunil Narine’s men as their wait for the first win of the tournament continues.

Abu Dhabi Knight Riders: 149/9 (20 Overs)

Joe Clarke 52 (27), Sunil Narine 23 (13)
