It was an outstanding year for both Matthew Short and Ashleigh Gardner in the Big Bash League respectively.

Matthew Short always had the potential, but two stellar seasons in the Big Bash League for Adelaide Strikers has taken him to new heights.

He finished the 2022 season as the highest run-getter, with 458 runs, and struck at 144.47. Moreover, the dynamic batter won the award by three votes ahead of Perth Scorchers' Ashton Turner

Strikers had a poor outing in the ongoing BBL season, but Short was the lone shining light for them. His magnificent unbeaten ton against Hobart Hurricanes on January 5, was surely the performance of the season by Short.

On the other hand, Ashleigh Gardner has been the focal point for both Australia women and Sydney Sixers, and capped off a memorable season with the WBBL Player of the Tournament.

Her ability with both bat and ball was crucial for the resurgence of the Sixers this season.

In arguably her best season for the Sixers, Gardner amassed 339 runs, at a strike-rate of 153. She showed her all-round prowess and also grabbed 23 wickets, to finish as the joint leading wicket-taker in the competition, alongside Megan Schutt.
