In the latest development, Indian opener, Murali Vijay has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. He announced the decision via his Twitter handle on Monday.
Vijay last played for India in 2018, and since then has found it difficult to get a place in the Indian Test setup. Vijay, 38, made his India Test debut against Australia in 2008, and became a regular member of the team for the next few years.
The right-handed batter made his T20I debut in 2010 on the back of a stellar Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but failed to live up to the hype created in franchise cricket.
For years, Vijay was a key figure in overseas Test matches for India. When everyone failed at the famous Gabba in 2014, he stood up and scored a stunning 144 and was the lone warrior for his side.
A silent warrior, Vijay played some memorable knocks in England as well, but injuries and poor form led to his India exit in 2018. The Chennai born batter has played 61 Test matches for India, and has accumulated 3982 runs, at 38.28.
He has also played in 17 ODI matches, but couldn't lit up the stage, scoring a mere 339 runs in 17 matches, at 21.18.
