Travis Head vows to attack Indian bowlers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023

Australian batter Travis Head reckons that he'll have to shun his conservative approach in order to succeed in spinning wickets in India.

Head endured a difficult series in Sri Lanka last year, passing ten only once in his three innings after what had been a difficult tour of Pakistan where he averaged 22.66.

In total, the southpaw's seven innings across five Tests in the subcontinent last year earned him just 91 runs at 15.16, and was the only one of Australia's top seven not to make at least one half-century.

Those numbers don't do justice to Australia's most prolific number 5 batter in recent times. Notably, 11 of his 33 Test appearances have been away from home so far and all of his Test centuries have come at home.

Speaking to the reporters ahead of the team's departure for India, Head asserted that he'll be proactive against the Indian bowlers in their backyard.

"Watching the way England played in Pakistan, I’ve probably looked back and wasn’t as positive as I’d like to be against spin in those series. I know it’s completely different being in Australia – but the more positive I am, the better I am with my feet and the better I am in defence,"  Travis Head told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald ahead of the team’s departure for India this week.

Head has already put his name among the best Test number 5 Australia have produced, but he'll have to improve his numbers in the subcontinent. 

Despite having an abysmal record in Asian conditions, Head is a sure starter for the four-match Test series in India starting next month.
