Comparison with Kohli makes no sense: Former Pakistan cricketer on Babar Azam

Pakistan captain Babar Azam had a stellar 2022. He won the ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year, and was also awarded the Male Cricketer of the Year. Babar garnered 2598 runs across all formats and was almost unstoppable with the bat in hand.

He had 8 fifty-plus scores in nine ODI games, and was the backbone of the Pakistan batting lineup. As a captain, he led his nation to the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup finals.

Over the years, he has been constantly compared with India's Virat Kohli. Babar's batting prowess has drawn comparison to the legendary Virat Kohli, and some believe that the Pakistan skipper has already surpassed Kohli. However, former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has a different take on it.

Misbah believes that it is too early to compare Babar with Kohli.

“There shouldn't be a comparison between the two. Kohli has played a lot of cricket, Babar is just starting. When Babar will play the same amount of cricket, then you can make a comparison. Kohli has played more cricket, and no one can match him at the moment.

Yes, Babar is a class player and he might achieve the same things as Kohli in the future, but at the moment, comparison between the two doesn't make sense because it's just a start for Babar,” Misbah said during an interaction with media.

Babar, 28, has represented Pakistan in 47 Test matches, 95 ODIs, and 99 T20Is so far.
