The Fifth T20 International between India and South Africa in the ongoing Tri-series got abandoned after two overs of play due to persistent rain at the Buffalo Park in East London.

Earlier, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first. Pooja Vastrakar, who was out of action for more than two months, made her way back to the playing eleven, replacing Amanjot Kaur.

Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues opened the innings for India facing Shabnam Ismail with the new ball, who was playing her first match in the tri-series. Ismail bowled a maiden first over to start the proceedings. Jemimah got India off the mark in the second over with a beautiful boundary over cover.

Following the completion of the second over, the game had to be stopped due to rain and it was quite heavy throughout. Eventually, the game could not be resumed and both the teams shared a point each.

However, this match was not going to have any impact in the tri-series as both India and South Africa had confirmed their place in the final. India are unbeaten in the series with two wins in two games prior to this fixture, while South Africa lost by 27 runs against India in their previous meeting.

India will be taking on West Indies next Monday, 31st January, in their final fixture before the final of the tri-series.
