Daryl Mitchell pleased after delivering match-winning performance against India

It was a significant effort from New Zealand's superhero Daryl Mitchell who played a 30-ball 59-run knock helping his side to reach a reasonable total of 176. Blitz from the right-hander forming a crucial partnership with Devon Conway ensured that they were always in the game, and rightly so as they defended the score by 21 runs.

Some outstanding bowling from the Kiwis made way for a quick turnaround as India got trapped in the spin web of skipper Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell and Ish Sodhi.

After the game, Daryl expressed his feelings and said that he believed in his ability to bat on what was perceived to be a tricky surface. However, he did mention that it doesn't always end up the way he wants as the shorter format is quite uncertain.

He looked quite assured of what he did with the bat and hopes to continue doing so for his side in the upcoming games.

"It's always nice to contribute to the scores. The way the boys bowled was fantastic. I guess the comments coming from the guys were that spin was hard to play and the partnership between Conway and Phillips helped me to play my strokes freely. Just keeping it simple and trusting my skills. Not every time it works in the T20 format but happy to contribute tonight."

Daryl Mitchell will next play for New Zealand in the second T20I against India on 29th January in Lucknow.
