IND vs AUS: Ready for Ravichandran Ashwin if I do get a chance: Matt Renshaw

Australian team will face its toughest opposition overseas when they visit India for a gruelling four-Test series next month for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Batter Matthew Renshaw, who is making a return to the red-ball side for the Baggy Greens, talked about being ready for the Ravichandran Ashwin challenge that awaits him and the team.

Renshaw, who toured India in Australia's last tour to India, played all four encounters and scored 232 runs with 2 fifties, before being dropped from the national side after a string of poor scores and then getting involved into the Sandpaper-Gate scandal.

The Australian batting unit comprises left-handed batters like David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Alex Carey, Travis Head, and Renshaw himself. 

Speaking to AAP, Renshaw said that batting in the middle-order in domestic cricket, has helped him play spin better.

"Ashwin is difficult to face. He is a smart bowler with a lot of variations and he uses them very well, but you do get used to him once you've faced him for a while. I think the big challenge from Ashwin and any offspinner in spinning conditions to a left-hander is the lbw threat.

"I think two years batting at No. 5 helped me with facing spin. I know my game a lot better now and I am a lot more comfortable in different situations. We have a strong squad and it is going to be hard to push my way in, but I know that I will be ready if I do get a chance."

Renshaw further talked about preparing for Indian conditions with the SG ball, during the his stint with the Brisbane Heat club in the ongoing BBL season, asking spinners to bowl at him in the nets.

The first Test begins from February 9 at Nagpur.
