India completed their successive One-Day International (ODI) clean sweep at home, beating New Zealand at Indore last evening. Shubman Gill, in particular, starred for the hosts with 360 runs, however, it was the bowlers who put their hands up for India in tough times.
Former India international Sanjay Manjrekar has pointed out the contribution of pacer Mohammed Siraj as one of the star performers for Rohit Sharma across the format. Sharma did not mention Siraj in the post-match presentation, much to Manjrekar's irk.
Speaking to Star Sports, the cricketer-turned-commentator said that Siraj at the moment looks like a complete seam bowler.
Here's what Manjrekar said
"In the post-match, he was hardly mentioned. Hardly talked about. But yes, when I have to look at 1 player who is promising a lot. One player whose growth has been phenomenal. I've used this term many times. He at the moment looks like a complete seam bowler. And that says a lot about any performer and not just this format. In T20Is and Test matches as well,
Shubman Gill got a double hundred and a hundred. But when you look at the quality and against the toughest opposition in the world - big pressure match. Mohammed Siraj is somebody that India have found, who will be there when India need him,”
The 28-year-old finished the series with 5 wickets in two ODIs, including a match-turning four-wicket haul in Hyderabad. He has been rested from the T20Is, and will be seen in Tests against Australia starting next month.
Ranked No.3 in ICC ODI Rankings for Bowlers, Siraj has been India's most successful bowler in ODIs since 2021.
