Sunrisers Eastern Cape jumped to the second spot with a dominating 124-run victory over Durban's Super Giants in Match 19 of the SA20 in St George's Park, Gqeberha.

Batters' effort leads Sunrisers to a mammoth total

Quinton de Kock's decision to field first backfired, as the Sunrisers were off to a sensational start. The openers, Adam Rossington and Jordan Hermann, took on the Giants' bowling attack from the word go.

The duo added 101 runs for the first wicket in a matter of 8.2 overs before Rossington was dismissed for 72 off 30, laced with ten fours and four sixes. After that, however, Hermann continued his momentum with skipper Aiden Markram.

Hermann returned to the hut for a well-compiled 59 off 44. Then, Markram remained unbeaten on 54 off 44, while Tristan Stubbs (27* off 13) provided a strong finish for them to post 210 on the board.

Van der Merwe skittle Super Giants

In reply, Giants lost Matthew Breetzke (3) early to Aiden Markram. Soon, Marco Jansen got rid of Wiaan Mulder (29), the key accelerator.

In his first ball of the fixture, Van der Merwe got past the defence of the in-form Heinrich Klassen. He found Quinton de Kock plumb LBW on the very next delivery, which titled the game in favour of the Sunrisers.

Things went downhill for the Giants from there, as Merwe finished with exceptional figures of 6/20 in four overs. Super Giants could only manage to score 86 and lost by 124 runs.

Brief Scores:

Sunrisers Eastern Cape: 210/2 (20)
Adam Rossington 72 (30), Jordan Hermann 59 (44);
Dwaine Pretorius 1/36

Durban's Super Giants: 86 (14.4)
Wiaan Mulder 29 (15), Keshav Maharaj 12* (10);
Roelof van der Merwe 6/20, Aiden Markram 1/11

Sunrisers Eastern Cape won by 124 runs.
