After previous reports of International Cricket Council's (ICC) bid getting rejected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the fresh update confirms that the six-team T20 event has been proposed for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The proposal has been made for both men's and women's events, which could be played in a single venue due to logistical challenges. The decision could be finalised by the end of October as IOC is scheduled to host a meeting in Mumbai which could make or break the deal for the sport.

The selection of teams will be done based on rankings that would be considered until a cut-off date to be decided at a later stage. Further, the structure and scheduling are something that cricket's governing body is still discussing.

Also, it has been confirmed that cricket would bid for the T20 format over T10 and ODIs as both of them does not fulfil the criteria. T10 is not played on an international level whereas ODI doesn't have that much popularity as compared to T20.

Cricket is actually facing a fight from baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse, break dancing, karate, kickboxing, squash and motorsport, all of which would be discussed when things get to a later stage.

Moreover, as reported earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been drafted into the setup of ICC's working group for the Olympic committee which is being headed by Greg Barclay, along with Indra Nooyi and Paraag Marathe who will work together to push for cricket's inclusion.
