India's former World Cup-winning captain and one of the best all-rounders to come from the country, Kapil Dev has opined on the present side's chances of winning the mega-event later this year. The Chandigarh-born believes that Men in Blue has the side to dominate in this edition, however, there are other factors involved that play a major part.

The 64-year-old said that succeeding in the global event is a combination of luck, fitness and balance. His view was that the main players are getting injured which hampers the team's ability to perform during crucial matches.

Dev further added that a player's fitness remains the most important thing in deciding who plays how since a lot of cricket is being played these days so managing the workload is quite important.

“Yes, we have a team, but there are other teams also who have the ability to win the World Cup. To win the trophy, you need a stroke of luck, right combination and top of that the main players should remain fit, that’s the most important thing. When they play so much cricket, injuries are going to take place and I hope when they get to play the tournament they don’t get injured.”

India's preparation for the World Cup is already underway as they are currently involved in the series against New Zealand after which they would be facing Australia. The Rohit Sharma-led side is also bound to play in the Asia Cup scheduled before the mega-event.
