After what went as one of the most uninspiring years for Pakistan in Test cricket as they failed to win even a single game on their home soil, there were criticisms from all quarters. More than their performance, it were the pitches that grabbed the attention of the fans and pundits who weren't at all impressed with the quality.

Especially talking about the Rawalpindi pitch which was considered too flat, even Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) former chairman Ramiz Raja agreed that they are years away from preparing a Test match pitch.

However, after his firing, PCB's new regime announced Shahid Afridi as new interim selector who referred to Raja's comments while talking about the pitch. The 45-year-old was quite fussed with how things have been handled until now mentioning that Rawalpindi pitch isn't quite a turning track as it supports the pacers.

"The way Ramiz was speaking, I mean, I was shocked to hear him say that we cannot make tracks like these. International matches have been going on in Pakistan for such a long time, but then we say stuff like (this). Ramiz said that he wanted a turning track. I feel in this weather, it would have been something big.

"Rawalpindi’s track has always been for the fast bowlers with seam and bounce. Why did they even change it? If we are talking about the Rawalpindi pitch, I have never seen a track like this. I have seen a lot of domestic games as well there, but I have never seen a pitch like this which is so flat. It reminded me of Faisalabad or Sialkot track."

Pakistan's record on home soil was a poor one as they failed to achieve a single victory in the past year losing to Australia and England while drawing against New Zealand.
