'I am not so sure'- Sanjay Bangar on Shubman Gill's place in ODIs

Indian opener Shubman Gill has been sensational in ODIs. The stylish Punjab batter finished as India's third-best ODI batter, amassing 638 runs at an average of 70.88 and a strike rate of 102.57. 

Continuing his scintillating touch, the youngster clobbered a belligerent double ton in the first ODI against New Zealand. So, considering his consistency, fans and experts expect Gill to make it into the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup scheduled later this year. 

However, former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes Gill's place in the ODIs is yet not cemented. 

Bangar, who had a brief international career, feels players like Ishan Kishan might challenge Gill, considering there is a lot of time left for the World Cup. 

Here's what Bangar stated

"I am not so sure as yet because obviously there is one batter (Ishan Kishan) who is a left-hander who has also done that feat not too long ago. Again very similar in the age group category, he is 24 and Shubman is 23,

"A great thing for Indian cricket because what it does actually is that it sort of narrows down your choices to maybe possibly now that out of those three, two will certainly open for the Indian team in the 50-over World Cup."

Meanwhile, India have put New Zealand down on the mat in the second ODI, courtesy of a spectacular bowling spell from Mohammed Shami. 

As of writing, the visitors are reeling at 60 for six, with the last recognised batting pair of Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner out in the middle.
