New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson is set to return from a long injury layoff. Jamieson is scheduled to play his first top-level cricket match in the ongoing Super Smash T20 tournament when he takes the field for the Auckland Aces on Friday going up against the Wellington Firebirds at Eden Park Outer Oval.

The tall bowler has been out of action since suffering a back injury during New Zealand's tour of England last year in the second Test. Jamieson has been playing club cricket for Weedons for a month or so.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, according to stuff.nz, Jamieson talked about focusing on playing cricket rather than his Black Caps return.

Here's what Jamieson said

“I've been out of the game for seven months, so I think if I look too far ahead it'll be a little bit silly. I'm very much just trying to play tomorrow and then if we get through tomorrow, we'll play Sunday.

I'm just trying to keep that mindset. It's obviously the goal to be back in that environment at some stage, but as to when that may be, we'll let [Black Caps coach Gary Stead] and co decide that.”

Since making his debut against India in 2020, the 28-year-old gained instant success in the Test arena, grabbing 72 wickets in 16 red-ball matches, which includes an ICC World Test Championship win as well.

He was recently brought in by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 mini-auction for INR 1 crore.
