Pacer Sam Conners has signed a two-year deal with Derbyshire, keeping him with the club till the end of 2024 season.

A graduate of the Derbyshire academy, Conners has made 58 appearances for the County since his debut in 2019, scalping 117 wickets in the process.

Last season, he became the youngest bowler to pick up 50 wickets in the County Championship, and was also the member of the Derbyshire side that won a record nine group stage matches in a row.

His impressive performance saw the 23-year-old getting a call-up to the England Lions squad to face South Africa Test squad, in August last year.

Head of cricket, Mickey Arthur was pleased with Conners' contract extension

“Sam played a lot of cricket in 2022 and he bowled every ball with the same level of effort, that’s the kind of attitude we want in our dressing room, so this extension is really pleasing," Arthur said.

“His England Lions appearances are an example of why we want to be the county of choice, because if a player is performing, we will give them the stage to progress to those heights. He should also be an inspiration to our Pathway, who can see how far that journey can take them," he added.

With injuries to several England pace bowlers, Conners will be eyeing his maiden England call-up as he continues to perform consistently in the Championship.
