Riding on a dominant performance from the bowlers, followed by a comfortable chase with the bat Pretoria Capitals crushed Joburg Super Kings by 6 wickets in Match 13 of the ongoing SA20 2023

Super Kings lose 5 wickets for 8 runs

After being invited to bat first, Joburg Super Kings got off to a scintillating start on a surface which looked to be another batting paradise in Pretoria. Despite losing Reeza Hendricks off the very first ball, Faf du Plessis put the pressure back on bowlers as he hit Wayne Parnell for four consecutive boundaries from the word go and went on to extract four big overs in the powerplay.

The Super Kings appeared in complete command as they scored a massive 70 runs in the powerplay and du Plessis completed his half century in just 19 balls. Just when du Plessis was looking to continue the onslaught, Capitals' attack led by Anrich Nortje produced an unbelievable turnaround as Super Kings lost five wickets for just eight runs and were limited to 78 for 7 at the end of ten overs.

Donavan Ferreira did try to counter attack but was soon halted by Adil Rashid and the men in yellow got bowled out for 122 on the board. Nortje and Jimmy Neesham were easily the pick of the bowlers for Capitals, who broke the back of Super Kings batting in a span of four overs. Both of them finished with three wickets apiece.

Chasing a paltry 123, Pretoria Capitals got off to a great start with Will Jacks firing with the bat and within a second Capitals were 42 for no loss in the first three overs. Nandre Burger, who was playing his first game of the tournament sent back Jacks, who departed after scoring 34 off just 16 balls. Rilee Rossouw and Theunis de Bruyn also got out early but Phil Salt continued the runflow and took Capitals to 70 for 3 at the end of the powerplay.

Shane Dadswell, batting at five, joined Salt in the middle and the duo went on to add 51 runs for the fourth wicket. Salt completed his half century in 28 balls, anchoring the chase perfectly and took Pretoria Capitals home with seven overs to spare.

With the ball, Nandre bowled an expensive first over but looked fine for the rest of the game. The left-armer bagged the wicket of dangerous Will Jacks and finished with a figure of 1 for 24. Lewis Gregory also managed a wicket and gave away just 12 runs in his 2 overs.
