In a significant development, veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma has surpassed Adam Gilchrist in the list of highest run-getters in ODI cricket.

Rohit ensured a stupendous start for India in the first ODI against New ̉Zealand, overtaking the Australian stalwart in this process. Currently, the Indian skipper is placed sixteenth in the list.

Most runs in ODIs

13. Brian Lara - 10405 runs in 289 innings

14. TM Dilshan - 10290 runs in 303 innings

15. Mohammad Yousuf - 9720 runs in 273 innings

Opening the batting alongside Shubman Gill, Rohit took on all New Zealand bowlers to the cleaners, ensuring a brisk start for India. However, he couldn't capitalise on the start, being dismissed by Blair Tickner for a 38-ball 34.
