New Zealand will take on India in a three-match One-Day International series starting today.

On the eve of the first ODI in Hyderabad, stand-in skipper Tom Latham talked about making it challenging for Virat Kohli, who is coming off an excellent outing against Sri Lanka, mustering 283 runs in three matches.

Kohli, ranked fourth in the ICC ODI Rankings for batters, slammed two tons in the recently held ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Latham will have a young side under his wings, with Kane Williamson, Tim Southee and Trent Boult being unavailable for the series.

However, the stylish southpaw asked others to utilise the opportunity in their favour in the absence of senior members.

Here's what Latham said

"Virat has been playing some great cricket. Looks like he is hitting the ball well. We need to plan as best as we can like we do our scouting on all those guys. We will try to make it as tough as possible for him (to score runs),

"They (Boult, Southee, Williamson) are not in the side and that leaves a massive hole for us. On the other hand, it presents an opportunity for other guys who have been around the squad. Everyone has played international cricket in the squad which is a bonus."

Latham further expects the tracks in India to be more competitive than what they saw in Pakistan, where they clinched the series 2-1 last week.
