Fond memories, it's a great place to play cricket: Joe Root on playing in India

One of the pillars of England's Test batting, Joe Root has expressed his fondness for playing cricket in India. Root, 32, made his Test, ODI, and T20I debut in India back in the 2012-13 season and has enjoyed playing against the subcontinental giant.

Root has slammed 12 centuries against India (Tests and ODIs), scoring a combined 3,426 runs at an astounding average of 56.16.

Currently playing for the Dubai Capitals in the International League T20 (ILT20), the England batter, speaking to Zee, revealed that he enjoys playing in India and lauded passion for the game within the general audience.

Root will be seen in action in India playing for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2023 edition.

Here's what Root said

"I made my debut in all three formats in India quite a long time ago now. I play my 50th test in India. Fond memories, it's a great place to play cricket. The passion for the game is evident when you walk into any stadium. 

You don't even have to be in a cricket ground to be honest, it's an obvious love for the sport and it's great to see that passion. I always enjoy getting to play in India also have a lot of fun."

The former England Test skipper pointed out that league cricket will help develop cricket at a lower or grassroots level, with international players sharing space with domestic talents.
