The musical chairs to the Indian squad carries on, as Rajat Patidar gets named to the Indian ODI squad after Shreyas Iyer gets ruled out of the series against New Zealand.

The Indian Number 4 batter has apparently sustained a back injury and will head to to the National Cricket Academy for further assessment and management.

Iyer's injury is a massive blow to the Indian team, as the batter has been in sublime form of late. The dashing right-hander emerged as India's most successful ODI batter in 2022, amassing 724 runs at a stupendous average of 55.69 and a strike rate of 91.53.

However, he was unable to hit a single fifty in the recently concluded home series against Sri Lanka, as he failed to convert his starts into big scores.

On the other hand, his injury offers a huge opportunity to Suryakumar Yadav, who, in all likelihood, will start ahead of Rajat Patidar in the series.

Despite being a T20 superstar, Suryakumar is yet to prove his mettle in the 50-over format. Therefore, this series will be a golden opportunity for him to cement his place in the ODIs.
