'I didn't get the freedom of Virender Sehwag'- Murali Vijay

Indian cricket has produced some of the best openers in world cricket across formats. However, they struggled to find an apt candidate for Tests for a long time. 

Post Sunil Gavaskar, only Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir left an impact. Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan did the role to perfection, but their careers, too, ended after a while.

Vijay, known for his aggressive and clinical approach to batting, has rued lack of chances provided to him during his playing days. 

Speaking on WV Raman's YouTube channel, the 38-year-old gave an example of Sehwag, who received freedom from the team management and grew to be a legend in red-ball cricket.

Here's What Vijay said

"Consciously, I didn't get the freedom of Virender Sehwag to be honest. Whatever Sehwag got in his life, I didn't. If I could have got that kind of backing and open-spreaded talks, I could have also tried,

"The honest thing is the team's backing and how you can contribute to the team in international level. It's a high-level competition and you don't have many chances to experiment different ways."

Between 2008 and 2018, Vijay played 61 Tests and amassed 3,982 runs, including 12 centuries and 15 half-centuries. 

The Tamil Nadu opener also praised Sehwag for his sheer destructibility in the field, which no other player could match.
