Ajinkya Rahane hoping to be the Ajinkya he once was

Middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane was once the mainstay for the Indian side, even captaining on a few occasions, however, with time he has fallen out of favour. The 34-year-old hammered a memorable century during the Boxing Day Test in the 2020-21 tour against Australia.

Rahane's credentials were always decent until he lost his touch with the bat, hence, making his way back into the team extremely difficult. During a recent interview, the right-hander touched on the topic of his poor form and what he is thinking to get back in the grove.

He mentioned that he remembered the time when he was relatively young and wants to replicate his initial thinking process which could help him start afresh.

"I was thinking about old times and when I first came into Ranji team (back in 2007). How I used to play, what was my thought process. I have gone back to the drawing board and I am trying to be the Ajinkya what I used to be in my initial days.

"The idea is to keep things simple. No major changes but small changes, skill wise, now I have to be in the moment thinking for Mumbai and doing well for them. That's on my mind completely."

Rahane is currently captaining Mumbai in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy and would want to lead his side well in the upcoming games.
