One of the leading voices in international cricket, Ian Smith, has parted ways with New Zealand broadcaster Sky Sport.

Smith, known for his vast cricket knowledge and acumen, now hosts a radio show for SENZ. On Monday, during his show, the former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter revealed that the decision to end his 23-year-long association with Sky was "mutual".

Smith, apart from cricket broadcasting, worked with Sky on rugby programming, where he conducted post-match interviews. During his tenure, the 65-year-old was part of the coverage for the All Blacks' two-World Cup title wins, 20 Super Rugby finals, and several domestic rugby matches.

Here's what Smith said

"I can reveal I am no longer a Sky TV contractor. I finished on the 31st of December. Even now, at my tender age, I have to reset my sights and goals and it's damned exciting, I have got to say,

"There's a purpose and a direction towards Māori and Pacific input and, of course, female sport, like never before. The way of the world as they say. So it was mutual that we part ways.''

Smith represented the Blackcaps in 63 Tests and 98 ODIs between 1980 and 1992. Sky Sports also thanked the veteran broadcaster for his dedicated service over the years and wished him luck for his future.
