Viacom18 bags the Women's IPL global media rights

In a significant turn of events, Viacom18 has won the media rights auction for the upcoming Women's IPL. 

Viacom has committed a whopping INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for the next 5 years, i.e. from 2023 to 2027. So, now the company has Digital rights of Men's IPL and TV and Digital rights of Women's IPL.

The news was surfaced by none other than the BCCI secretary Mr Jay Shah. 


Here's what Shah tweeted

"Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Women’s IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in @BCCI and @BCCIWomen. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket,

"After pay equity, today's bidding for media rights for Women's IPL marks another historic mandate. It's a big and decisive step for empowerment of women's cricket in India, which will ensure participation of women from all ages. A new dawn indeed!"

Since the BCCI has made the announcement of the inaugural Women’s IPL, there has been huge excitement observed among the masses for the tournament. 

As per reports, eight of the ten IPL franchises have shown interest in buying a team in the showpiece event. And now, considering the massive investment by Viacom18, we can anticipate how significant an impact it will have on Women’s cricket.
