On Sunday, team India created history, defeating Sri Lanka by the highest-ever margin in ODI cricket.

Riding on Virat Kohli's stupendous 166*, the hosts posted a massive 390 on the board and later defended it successfully, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj's sensational four-for.

Talking about Kohli, the talismanic Indian batter took all Sri Lankan bowlers to the cleaners, smashing thirteen fours and eight sixes during his 110-ball stay.

In this process, the former Indian captain eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 20 hundreds to set the record for the most number of ODI centuries on home soil.

Most ODI hundreds at home

  • Virat Kohli - 21 hundreds in 101 innings
  • Sachin Tendulkar - 20 hundreds in 160 innings
  • Hashim Amla - 14 hundreds in 69 innings
  • Ricky Ponting - 13 hundreds in 150 innings
  • Ross Taylor - 12 hundreds in 102 innings

Kohli who remained unbeaten and propelled India to a gigantic total in the game, also went past Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene in the list of highest run-getters in ODI cricket.

Interestingly, Kohli's tally of 46 ODI tons is one more than the most international hundreds by an active cricketer (45 by David Warner). Now, Kohli also holds the record for the most 150-plus scores (5) by a non-opener in men's ODIs.

Regarded as a modern day great, Kohli has 12754 runs at a splendid average of 58.23 in 268 ODI appearances. His next assignment will be the home ODI series against New Zealand beginning on January 18.
