New Zealand white-ball skipper Kane Williamson lauded his team after they won the third and last ODI of the three-match series against Pakistan to register their maiden ODI series win in Pakistan.

Chasing 281 in the all-important series decider, the visitors were in a spot of bother when they lost wickets in the middle overs. Batting at number 7, Glenn Phillips played a sensational innings and single-handedly won the match for New Zealand out of nowhere.

He blasted his maiden half-century in ODI cricket, scoring an unbeaten 63* off 42 with the help of 4 fours and 4 sixes to guide his team to victory with 11 balls and 2 wickets to spare.

Williamson, who scored an important half-century (53 off 68 balls) in a tricky run chase, hailed his team for outplaying Pakistan in their home conditions and labeled the historic series win against Pakistan as special.

"It is special, we always know whether it is home or away, it is always tough the cricket against Pakistan, they are a very strong side.

So to come here and play well as a unit throughout the series and getting a series win is a very good effort by the team and another great opportunity to take a lot of learnings from it as well,"  said Kane Williamson in the post-match conference.

Despite losing the opening encounter against the home side, Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team made a remarkable comeback in the series by winning the last two ODIs to take the series- 2-1. Notably, it is the first time that the Kiwis have won the ODI series in the sub-continent since 2008.
