In a major development, it is widely expected that star Indian keeper-batter, Rishabh Pant will be out of action for most of 2023, and is set to miss a number of marquee events, including the IPL and Asia Cup.

As per a report by ESPNCricinfo, Pant has torn all three key ligaments in his right knee, two of which were reconstructed recently, while the third is set to be operated in the next six weeks.

As a result of this, the swashbuckling batter is set to be sidelined for a minimum of six months, putting him in a race against time to be fit for the 2023 World Cup in India.

Last week, Pant underwent a knee surgery to repair the ligament damage in his right knee after he met with an accident while driving back home to meet his family. He was eventually airlifted from Dehradun, and was flown to Mumbai where he is under the observation of the BCCI doctors.

It has been learned that all three ligaments in the knee - anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, and medial collateral ligament - which are necessary for movement and stability have been torn in Pant's case.

His MCL and PCL were reconstructed in the recent surgery, but the southpaw will have to undergo another surgery to fix the ACL.

There is no definite timeline, but as per the doctors and BCCI management, the 25-year-old will require a minimum of six months to recover from the injury he has suffered.
