Australian batter, Alex Carey says that he understands Rashid Khan's disappointment after Cricket Australia (CA) refused to play the ODI series against Afghanistan, but hopes that his Adelaide Strikers teammate continues to play in Big Bash League (BBL).

On Thursday, Cricket Australia announced that it was withdrawing from the ODI series against Afghanistan in March 2023. CA consulted with stakeholders and government officials before taking the decision to back out from the series.

"This decision follows the recent announcement by the Taliban of further restrictions on women's and girls' education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms," CA said in a statement.

Following this statement, Rashid Khan stated that he was 'very disappointed' by CA's decision and would be strongly considering his BBL future after this decision.

However, his Adelaide Strikers teammate, Alex Carey has stated that although he supports CA's decision, he still hopes that Rashid can continue to play for the Adelaide based side.

"He wants to play cricket for his country against a really strong country in Australia," Carey told ABC Sport.

"They're bigger issues than I can comment on and probably have to understand in a lot more depth.

He sounds obviously very disappointed in that decision and no doubt over the next few days there will be more clarity around it from CA."
